Zodiac Gem-Stones: Gemini by Mary Ann Miller (May 20 – June 21)

May 24, 2010 by

Gemini (May 20 – June 21)  is the sign associated with communication, logical thought processes (based on duality) and the conscious mind. Gemini people tend to be airy and intellectual, glib of tongue and curious about life and other people. They can experience two sides of things at the same time, and may tend to be flighty.  Geminorum (the plural of Gemini) move through life like butterflies, engaging in many varied experiences to gain knowledge. They are witty, have a good sense of humor, are likely to be excellent conversationalists and make good teachers. They can be nervous and high-strung, and may be mischievous. Unlike possessive Taurus, they tend toward liberty in relationship. And although Geminorum can be easily bored, under the control of self-discipline they have tremendous intellectual and artistic possibilities. (www.astrograph.com)

In addition to your sun sign and the zodiacal influences, there is a another determing factor over your ‘star’ personality — your astrological element. The element related to Gemini is air. Air people tend to live in their heads, being logical and scientific, as well as curious about what is around them and detached in their outlook. They dream the world into being with their future-oriented conceptions. They choose all parties in a dispute rather than taking sides, and thus provide the social linkage that can join disparate groups to each other.

There is a plethora of information and lists about which stones are connected to each sun sign. However, using my own intuition, I chose Aquamarine, Carnelian, Clear Quartz and Rose Quartz for Gemini based on ancient principles and others that might help alleviate problems associated with that particular sign.

Aquamarine is the communicator of universal truth.  It is a transparent variety of Beryl that is blue, blue-green or green in color. Aquamarine comes from the Latin, aqua marina, meaning “water of the sea”. Ancient Mediterranean sailors, fishermen and sea travelers considered aquamarine to be a particularly lucky talisman for when on the water. Sea travelers carried aquamarine amulets to calm their fears in perilous situations and fishermen believed the amulets had the power to increase the size of their catch. And, in times of danger on the high seas, sailors believed the amulets would transfer unmatched bravery to their souls, giving them the power to overcome the most violent storm. Aquamarine is mined in Brazil, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Africa and the United States.

For Gemini women, aquamarine lends the courage and clarity to express inner knowing. For Gemini men, Aquamarine helps dispel emotional numbness and the difficulty men sometimes experience in communicating their feelings.  For all Geminorum, aquamarine promotes gentle, truthful, compassionate communication.  Geminorum tend to get or feel overloaded with responsibility and aquamarine helps restore order to their world. Its energies are soothing to the emotions and particularly cooling to anger or hostility.

Carnelian gets flighty Gemini back to a creative, sensual self-life center.  Carnelian can vary in color from pale orange to deep red-orange or it can be banded in varying shades. Its name is derived from its resemblance in color to the Kornel type of cherry. Carnelian has been used in jewelry since before Christ and was the favorite stone of Mohammad and verses from the Koran have been found engraved on this stone.  The finest Carnelians are found in India, although most of the stones today are from Brazil and Uruguay. Carnelian helps  Geminorum to get out of their head and back into their body. It lends vitality and invigorates the physical body, reminding Gemini of their creative nature. This is the perfect stone for awakening your inherent talents and skills. Carnelian will encourage you to take the risks inherent in all strong decisions.

Clear Quartz helps focus intent and reduces mental restlessness. Quartz crystal is a clear, transparent form of quartz which has not been colored by the pressure of other minerals. It is the “purest” of all quartzes. Clear quartz is also known as Rock Crystal or Quartz Crystal and is one of the most common minerals found on Earth. The ancient Greeks believed that quartz crystal was water frozen so hard it could never thaw. The name comes from the Greek krystallos meaning “ice.” Folklore and spiritual beliefs have surrounded quartz crystal for thousands of years. The Japanese called it “the perfect jewel” and viewed it as a symbol of infinite space, purity, perseverance and patience. Indigenous cultures in North America and Burma believed clear quartzes to be living entities and presented them with food as ritual offerings. In past cultures of Central and South America, quartz crystals carved into human skulls were venerated as powerful religious objects.

Air signs like Gemini spend a great deal of time in their head and that can be exhausting bouncing from one idea to another.  Quartz crystal alleviates some of that wandering and can assist in overcoming confusion. It brings clarity of thought and purpose to your mind and heart. Clear quartz will also amplify your prayers, wishes and positive visualizations.
