2012: The Year of Prophecy – An Astrological Perspective

We are now in the Year 2012 and many people are facing this year of prophecy with fear and trepidation on the one hand and anticipation on the other. There has been much hype built up around this year just as there was prior to the Year 2000 when we didn’t know if computers would stop causing global chaos. As we know, the year came and went without a whisper.

I don’t believe 2012 will come and go without a whisper, however, because the planetary pressure to change is intensifying, especially from May/June. In this article, we will look at some of the hype out there from an astrological and metaphysical perspective, and why there is so much fear on the one hand; and feelings that we will all become enlightened overnight on the other.

We will look at some of the questions now being asked by thinking people around the globe, such as:

Is it true that on December 21, 2012, the Earth will align with the Center of the Galaxy?
Is this the end of the world….Is it the beginning of a new world?
What can we glean from Mayan astrology?
What do Western astrologers say?
Will there be a December 22, 2012 and beyond?
What does our future hold?

One thing is sure, we are building up to something and that is change on a global scale. We can’t go on as we are. How can we? We continue to take from our environment, and our brittle civilization is based on competition and greed. Sadly, only a relative handful of people are really trying to make a difference. We are still at war; there is still greed and even almost unbelievable things like slavery in our modern civilization. How can we continue as we are? Let’s be honest – do we want to continue as we are?

Many would agree that the most urgent questions facing us at this time include – “What are you and I prepared to do to make a difference?” “How can we ensure that change comes as smoothly as possible?” “How can we raise our own consciousness as well as that of others?” If we don’t work hard to find answers to these questions, I believe things will happen to us to shake us out of our global apathy. If we are prepared to take the initiative, then we can be an important part of the change and will never regret our efforts in this respect. It is just not true that we will all become enlightened overnight on December 21, 2012 as some so-called teachers would have us believe. It never has been easy to gain enlightenment and it never will be. It is true that the planets are helping us to evolve, and the great Masters are working hard to teach us, but the real work has to be done by each and every one of us.

The Law of Karma

There is no magic pill that we can swallow, or angel dust that we can sprinkle; it is the individual and combined efforts of all of us who care, that will enable the change to take place in the least disruptive way. The Law of Karma is exact and we cannot skip around this great law of action and reaction but we can learn to understand it and work with its positive phase. If we do this, then the predicted disaster scenarios will not take place, or can be softened. However, it is up to us.

We have an individual karmic pattern made up over lifetimes as a result of our thoughts and actions. Since most of us are a mixture, we are working through the challenges from the past, as well as embracing opportunities arising now and in the future. We cannot skip around our karma — but the good news is that catastrophe and disaster are not inevitable.

One brilliant concept taught by my Spiritual Master, Dr. George King – with whom I studied and worked with for over twenty years – is that karma can be manipulated. We can literally improve our karmic patterns in one of many ways. He founded The Aetherius Society which is active in many parts of the world – including Metro Detroit, Michigan where I now live with my husband, Gary – in order to teach these and many other cosmic truths. The Aetherius Society offers spiritual tools to help everyone, and is also working hard through global healing missions to help balance the negative karma of humanity;

As well as the individual karmic patterns we all have, humanity as a whole has one collective karmic pattern in which we all share. The fact that we are still collectively doing a lot of bad things means that we will have reactions. When 92 people were killed in a quiet peaceful place near Oslo, Norway last year, we all shared in the slaughter. The karmic pattern of all of us was that much worse. And this is just one example of man’s inhumanity to man and the insanity in which unfortunately we all share. By the same token, when you sit quietly and offer your prayers for healing and peace, you are helping not only those who are sick, but yourself – and the whole world.

If we look honestly at the karmic scales, we will see that they are weighted heavy. One person, however, can tip the scales the other way – and especially if that person is enlightened enough. We have many examples in our history. Look at the Master Jesus, for example. When this Cosmic Avatar of Love came to our Earth we were then on the verge of global catastrophe. He sacrificed Himself to change our collective karma. And whether we are Christian or not, this is a fact. Many other great Masters have come from beyond our world to save us; to help raise consciousness; to bring us enlightened teachings, such as The Lord Buddha, Sri Krishna, Lao Tse, and many more throughout our history.

The fact that we are on the cusp of a dawning New Age– the end of one cycle and beginning of the next, means that we are going through a karmic watershed and things from the past are coming to our attention. I’m afraid we will realize more and more that this is true.

The Mayan Calendar

From research I believe some of the hype about the Mayan calendar is inaccurate and not even true. I am not talking about the Mayans themselves whose calculations were absolutely phenomenal – but of some of the New Age interpretations. I certainly do not claim to be an expert in Mayan astrology but have gleaned a few things. One is that they had three timekeeping systems, haab, tzolkin and the Long Count, each employing the unique mathematical Mayan counting system similar to our decimal numbering but based upon the numbers 13, 18, and 20. The latter, the Mayan Long Count, seems to conclude with the end of its longest period of 144,000 days (about 400 years), i.e. the end of the 13th Baktun, and would stop on the Gregorian calendar’s date of December 12, 2012. On that same day, the 14^th Baktun begins, so just from this perspective alone, 2012 is a significant year, quite apart from all the other intense planetary activity.

According to Mayan creation myths, the count begins August 11th, 3114 BC. This is also interesting because ancient history nearly everywhere is recorded from almost 3,000 years BC, which is almost 5,000 years ago.

At this time, the first Egyptian pyramids were built and the first structures at Stonehenge were put in place about 3,000 years BC and built over a 500 year period – it is hard to imagine that! Dr. George King said, interestingly, that without these two structures, the world would now be a very different place. The Hindu Kali Yuga is a chronology of ages from ancient India and this begins at this time as well.

This 5,000 year mark as defined in Mayan astrology. You could say this is coincidence that all these major things happened 5,000 years ago but there is no such thing as coincidence, it does not exist. There is, however, a Grand Design – a Plan – such as The Cosmic Plan for the Peace and Enlightenment of humanity which is an essential part of this grand design and a very real thing devised by ancient and wise Masters.

For those people who think that the Mayans were indicating that the end of the 5,125 year cycle is the end of the world; this is actually only one-fifth of much larger cycle. In Western astrology this is The Great Year of 26,000 years which is connected to the precession of the equinoxes.

In simple terms, this precession of the equinoxes is about the wobble of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun, and the extension of this wobble into space. By doing this, one can see that this wobble slowly but surely describes a cone formation over about 26,000 years. This is a cycle just like your birthday is the beginning of a new cycle each year when the Sun returns to the exact position that it was when you were born. This is called your solar return cycle. Everything in life comes in cycles – including our karmic pattern – and the planets form a cosmic symphony of cycles that assist us in our evolution.

One thing with this wobbling top is that the equinoxes actually move backwards against the constellations. Forwards is Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, etc. Backwards is Taurus, Aries, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn. This means that we are actually moving backwards through the Ages.

You’ve all heard of the astrological Ages, I am sure. To calculate these Ages, we divide this Great Year of 26,000 years into 12 (for the 12 signs of the zodiac). This makes each Age approximately 2150 years. We are currently leaving the Age of Pisces (the last of the twelve Signs) and moving into the Age of Aquarius.

The different Ages bring to us different aspects of consciousness that enable us, humanity, to unfold our divine potential more fully in different ways. Again, this is all a part of this Cosmic Plan for the Peace and Enlightenment of humanity.

The Age of Pisces – 300 BC – to 1996+ AD

The Age we are now moving out of was dominated largely by religion with a mixture of faith, love, healing and sacrifice. As well as Love, The Age of Pisces is related to water, Neptune, and the subconscious. The “dark side” of mind controlled civilization to a large extent with fear and guilt playing a large role and being motivating factors. The wise Ancients foresaw this and hid much valuable information in order to preserve it for they knew that our society was going into a decline and that much would be destroyed or misinterpreted. The Master Jesus heralded in this Age bringing Love, Faith, Healing and Service as the powerful “antidotes” to this time when fear prevailed so strongly.

The Age of Aquarius – 1996 – 4146 AD

We are now in The Age of Aquarius but also still at the cusp or changeover period as this takes several hundred years. This is the era of Enlightenment and Personal Freedom. It is the age of Science and Spirituality and we are already seeing many exciting scientific breakthroughs in the realms of quantum physics, for one, which is now proving the ancient wisdom. Now in this Age, we have a chance to move from fear and guilt into the light of the revelation of truth. Already in the past one hundred years, we have seen tremendous advances in science, and humanity has literally reached for the stars.

In line with this fast moving Age of revelation and science, a new cosmic philosophy is needed. Several teachers have come at the beginning of this Age to bring cosmic wisdom, notably Dr. George King, my own Spiritual teacher, born on January 23, 1919. He has been an advanced Medium for ancient and new Wisdom to be channeled through him, including the sacred texts, The Twelve Blessings, given in these days by The Master Jesus when He overshadowed Dr. King in 1958 over twelve consecutive Sundays in London, England.

So you see in Astrology this Great Year of 26,000 years is divided into twelve and each represents an Age when new consciousness revealed. The planets are here to help us evolve and although we are all evolving at different rates, as one planetary race we are all being exposed to these new Aquarian Age concepts.

If we take this Great Year and divide by 5 instead of by 12, we get close to 5125 year span of the Mayan Long Count. Considering the figure given for each Age is an average only, and can vary by 200-300 years, this was a very accurate reading of astronomical motion by the Mayans. The Maya also had time periods much longer than the Long Count, suggesting that Maya time measurements existed before 3114 BC and after 2012.

2012 and Beyond

Hopis and Mayans also saw this time now, as do astrologers and other prophets and seers, as a transition from one Age to another, which it is. The shift is inevitable but it is our choice as to how we make the shift. Many people believe there will be “a shift in consciousness” but are not exactly sure what this means. From an astrological perspective, the energies are there helping us to make a profound shift in consciousness but still we have to individually and collectively put in the work and effort to make the shift.

I am stressing this point as I believe it’s an important one. I read a New Age book recently in which on this apparently magical day of December 21, we all awoke as enlightened beings. This just won’t happen unless we put in the effort. The path to God-realization is the shortest path we can take but takes the longest over many lifetimes.

We can consciously choose to be on this all-important journey towards enlightenment today – if we have not already done so – but we will not become enlightened overnight. When we are ready, we will gain a degree of enlightenment in a split second but first we have to put in the work. This dedicated effort and spiritual discipline takes many years and many lifetimes. Even then enlightenment dawns in stages as we slowly unravel the ties that bind us to reveal our inner light.

Another myth is that the planets energies create havoc, implying they are bad. All planetary energies are good. There is a divine and perfect Plan, with all the planets interweaving energies playing a beautiful cosmic symphony, urging us to return to our divine source.

On a human level, think of a mother’s love for her child; this can be a great, self-sacrificing love. However, a good mother would not allow her child to poke her finger in the fire; instead she would grab hold of her daughter, and discipline her so that she did not do that again. Think of the planets as our cosmic parents. Because we are continually putting our fingers in the fire of negative thoughts and actions, with hate, jealousy, pettiness and even war – the karmic effect is that limitation is placed on our lives. We then may think of this limitation as bad or negative but it is in fact helping us to learn.

In astrology, the planet Saturn is known as the Great Teacher and, together with the planet Uranus, this wonderful planet rules this Age of Aquarius. If we move away from the law of justice, karma – one of the great Laws of God, we will feel the strong arm of Saturn, keeping us limited so we can’t hurt ourselves. If we cooperate with the great Laws of God, Saturn will help us every step of the way, to build something beautiful and lasting.

The Mother Earth

Also, the Mother Earth herself is evolving, as is all life. The planets themselves are living, breathing Intelligences as we are; only much more advanced than us. We only have to ponder that for a few minutes, or meditate upon it, to realize the truth of this. We learn through the communications received through Dr. George King that, on July 8, 1964, the Earth received a great Initiation during which She received more energies than She had received since her inception as a planet. These energies are slowly being released, causing vibrations on this Earth to be raised.

Whether we, humanity, can withstand these heightened vibrations is up to us. If we continue our murderous, selfish ways, we would not be able to withstand these vibrations and would have to be reborn on another younger planet.

So this really is a time of crossroads in which we are the choosers. We need now to come off the fence and make a stand for the good by not just embracing spiritual thought but by working in spiritual and charitable ways. The new universal religion in these days is service to others and this is what is important today. It doesn’t matter what religion or spiritual philosophy we choose at this time; it’s the service we give that counts and that will tip the karmic scales in a positive way.

The Galactic Alignment Myth

Another 2012 myth is that on December 21, 2012 exactly there will be a Galactic Alignment. This is the alignment of the December solstice Sun with the “galactic equator”, and what the Mayans refer to as “The Sacred Tree”, with our star, the Sun, at the very centre of this alignment.

I am not an expert at astronomy but this event is real; however, it doesn’t happen in one day and it is impossible to pinpoint. It occurs as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. This precession is caused by the earth wobbling very slowly on its axis as described earlier, and shifts the position of the equinoxes and solstices one degree every 71.5 years.

Using this measurement, the sun is one-half of a degree wide, therefore it will take the December solstice sun 36 years to precess through the Galactic equator. John Major Jenkins says that this precise alignment with the Galactic equator was calculated to occur in 1998 (per Jean Meeus, in Mathematical Astronomy). Therefore since it takes 36 years, you can put this alignment as 18 years on each side of 1998. This makes the Galactic alignment period from 1980 right through to 2016. This is known as the era of 2012 and we’re in it right now but it is not just one day or even one year. However, others say that this event won’t happen for several decades so I can only speculate about this. Certainly, a few decades, or a few hundred years are as nothing in cosmic time so we are definitely close to this important point.

In other words, we are in the midst of an important Galactic Alignment period that only takes place every 26,000 years (remember that’s the period of the Great Year) and was what the Mayans were pointing to, I believe, with the 2012 end date. This is an important era, with major planetary alignments leading up to and beyond this date, an incredible 29 eclipses in 2012 and the rare and beautiful Venus transit. Since the Galaxy Itself is an Intelligence, expressing, evolving and going through Initiations –any major contact with living Intelligence is of the utmost importance for all life within this great Galaxy.

It is not a single apocalyptic event as movie makers or some New Age authors would have us believe but it is important. It is not difficult to see that it is imperative we do have a paradigm shift because our tenuous civilization cannot continue as it is.

When I actually drew up chart using Western Astrology, which I have studied for many decades, I was surprised to find that the astrology of 2012 is fascinating as indeed the actual chart for the Winter solstice on December 21.

Later, I will be giving some predictions and will also discuss some of the important and even spectacular planetary alignments this year, including the Venus transit and the incredibly powerful Uranus/Pluto alignment. Certainly early last year, I predicted this would be a time of revolution and revelation and when I said that the world was relatively quiet on the activism front. A few months later the Arab Spring events happened, followed by Occupy Wall Street which went global.
To summarize, the good news is we will certainly exist after 2012; I am adamant about that! We are here on this Planet learning and evolving thanks to the Goddess Earth who accepts us upon her beautiful Body, thanks to the planets, and thanks to the Masters, The Spiritual Hierarchy of Earth and other great Teachers who help and guide us.

However, we have to change. We can no longer sit on the fence waiting; now is the time for the Spiritually-minded person to give back; to act in selfless ways for humanity. The good news is that it is not that difficult to bring change into our lives by embracing a more spiritual outlook and by giving service to others in one of a thousand ways, once we realize that we are responsible for our future.

Many of you who are reading this are already doing this and God bless you for your fine efforts! However, now is the time for us to work that much harder in our prayers for healing work and to give that much more service — because there are many among us who are not prepared to do this. And since we are one human family we’re in it together. Let us not be discouraged by this but empowered. We should never forget that history has revealed that only one person can make a difference and tip the karmic scales. And, guess what –you are the One!

It is now 2012 – the year of Destiny – and the writing is on the wall.
